I'm trying to register a domain name that I know has expired but it shows as taken during registration, how can that be?
When a domain name expires that doesn't mean that the domain name will be available for registration.
It takes about 40-76 days for a domain to drop. When a domain name still shows up in a whois lookup it means that the domain name isn't available for registration because the registrar hasn't released it.
